Imagine my surprise when I moved here and bought a garden spade... dig in the "dirt." It didn't take me long to realize that, unless I wanted to spring for an electric jackhammer, I'd be putting my pick-mattock to the test. To its credit, it did work to dig a tombstone-sized chunk of limestone out of the hole where I installed a master valve for my leaky irrigation system, although that bent it back slightly and chipped a corner off it. The real curling up of the blade happened in the last few days of hard use.
