Read an review/article regarding Harbor Freight impact/drills vs "American made". I got the strong impression he was referring to Milwaukee or others of that ilk being the "American brand". Using photos of each disassembled, he showed how they are BOTH made in China; the difference this time was the number of clutches (two for the cheaper HF, four for the Milwaukee/brand name) along with a few other upgrade "tweaks".
And yes, the tweaks can be key as with the HF drill bits. That said, even the Lowe/Depot brand drill bits often seem made of lead alloy and you need to overlook those for a strong national "brand name" quality drill bit and other tools.
