Cobalt is also a binder in carbide and PCD

Cobalt is the binder used, tool guy who knew his stuff also told me while the diamonds in PCD are recovered, the cobalt is lost. Kennmetal bought a MOUNTAIN more or less in some far away place to secure a stable supply of Cobalt. Also High Speed Steels such as "M42" the final digit is cobalt content. THAT alloy can be recycled and retain the cobalt, so it has about twice the scrap value that plain old M4 has.
