it does sound like you're trying to pass a stone. Location sounds about right. Renal/ureteral colic tends to come in waves. Don't always see hematuria, urinary urgency, frequency, etc. Fever? Nausea? You might screen your urine. If you find a stone or sludge it can be analyzed. Some other possibilities, tho, like hernia or divertic (usually left side).

The bills suck. But you'd hate to fully obstruct a ureter and lose that kidney's function. That would suck more.

Believe it or not, NSAIDs are very effective pain relief. We couldn't believe just how effective IV Toradol was when it became available. Much better than moderate opiate dosing.
